Angels of Mercy Clinic, Inc. recently received $2,000 for pre-diabetes screening. The James City Lions Club joined with the Lions Charity Foundation of Southeastern Virginia to make this contribution. Individuals found to have pre-diabetes receive information about how they can reduce their risk for developing type 2 diabetes.  This is the seventh year the Lions have worked with the Clinic to reduce the risk of diabetes for those in the Greater Williamsburg community.

Since 2013 with financial support from Lions, AOM has screened 325 patients.  They identified 87 with pre-diabetes and 3 with Type 2 Diabetes.  The 90 patients received diabetes self-management support from AOM.  Support includes: primary care, free prescription drugs, one-on-one diabetes education, nutrition counseling, fitness support, and free laboratory services (by Sentara).
